Tekken X Street Fighter - Megaman by Kiwi-RGB Tekken X Street Fighter - Megaman by Kiwi-RGB
Man these people have been on a major "bad box art megaman" rush ever since megaman 9.

For those who haven't been following, the newest capcom fighter has a selectable character that looks vaguely like the weird box art of the first megaman game: [link] Except now he's middle age, fat, and so on. Which is funny enough, but some people don't like it because they think it's salt in the wounds after Megaman Universe (which also had a bad box art character) and Legends 3 both got cancelled. I myself think it's another case of strange japanese humor. You've seen their gameshows, right?

SPEAKING OF BONUS DLC, I'm giving away all my secrets by showing you how I make sprites like this! Hurrah! Check out the sprite tutorial on my site.

Bad-Box-Art Megaman was a joke, but from what I saw in the concept sketches, they planned to remake a "In his prime" Bad Box-Art Megaman, which he kinda looked like this... except he was ripped and his uniform was completely blue instead of being two-toned.

That being said, Bad Box-Art Megaman does make me laugh, in a good way. It's a shame that Capcom doesn't want me to play as him because I went for an Xbox 360...

I called him Megabro, and he finally gets to shine in a game!

hmm i never looked at the game, though i wasent supried much when they got him as this, but this is a nice pixel work.I looked a your sites tutorial using illustrator for sprites, i never got to it, but
if i do make one from scratch in illustrator, should i first sketch it some how, with rough base colors, then trace over it?
or to get good at it just practice vectoring sprites up first?
and i apologize if that make sense, im not very good at common sense, i cant say things right, when i dont think

If you like vectoring and you think you'll do more of it in the future, you should do the practicing.
But if you're just doing vectors to make sprites easier, you can save time by sketching the lines in pencil (or however is easiest for you), then tracing the lines and coloring it in vector. Remember, the thing vector will help you most with is shrinking full-sized art into pixel art without all the smudging and blurry-ness you'd get from shrinking art in photoshop

kay im expermenting with illustrator, however when i shrink it down, the colors are off place in the linework..
im still trying again, but what resolution should i scan the drawing ,150?
200?

:iconkiwi-rgb:
Kiwi-RGB Featured By Owner Feb 5, 2012
the scan resolution doesn't matter -- make sure you're tracing your lines with either the pencil tool or the pen tool with a stroke of 1, and that all of your lines are closed and connected to other paths.

The way you fill in colors is what will determine your success: ideally, you'd be able to assign fills to your tracings (so instead of tracing all around your character first, you'd do individual tracings of different colored sections like a hand, then a sleeve, then a face, then hair, etc).

Since you're just starting out though, don't overwhelm yourself. Instead, just focus on getting good lines and then bringing them into photoshop/gimp/etc and shrinking them sharply to the 200 or so pixels high that you want and see if you can get good 1-pixel-width sprite lineart first. You can fill in colors right from there with a paint bucket fill tool if you like the lines

Great sprite and to be honest I've always found those supposedly bad box art images of Mega Man far more interesting than the rather simple and bland design of the actual character (and his babyish NES sprite). I even repixelled the NES sprite to match the PAL Mega Man 2 box art design more closely on Deluxe Paint on my Amiga sometime in the mid 90's (made him veeery shiny).

Anyways yeah I'm quite liking this incarnation of Mega Man and your sprite version looks very authentic.

I'm always a fan of reinterpretations of existing characters and their worlds. And the more simple the character, the more it's like working with a blank sheet of paper. Megaman has that perfect storm of simple visuals, simple gameplay and simple story -- which means I don't think I could ever get sick of new takes on that game.

The first boxart has that Tron vibe going, especially with that one background Nintendo slapped on all their games for a while. The second boxart I thought was quite decent.

guys guys, he's just a fucking extra character. Keiji Inafune was big in the development of megaman. He left the company and i think Capcom wanted to troll him but seriously, its just an extra character just like Cole, Kuro, Toro and Pac-man. If u dont want them, then buy it 4 the xbox fuckers and stop complaining!
